About the Course
This CFPE – Fire Alarm and Signalling Systems Plan Review Training is designed for professionals seeking to meet the competency requirements outlined in NFPA 1031for Certified Fire Plan Examiners, with a focused application on NFPA 72:National Fire Alarm and Signalling Code. Delivered over 5 days, the course prepares participants to critically evaluate fire alarm system plans for code compliance, functional integrity, and public safety. It blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on review exercises, enabling plan examiners to effectively assess fire protection documents for various occupancies. Participants should ideally have foundational knowledge of fire protection systems or relevant experience to maximize learning outcomes.
Course Syllabus
• NFPA 1031Overview: Scope, qualifications, and responsibilities of a Certified Fire Plan Examiner.
• Codes and Standards in Plan Review: Applying NFPA standards (such as NFPA 1,13, 25, 72, 101, and 5000), IBC, and IFC in plan evaluation.
• Plan Review Process: Procedures for receiving, evaluating, documenting, and approving construction plans and fire protection systems.
• Fire Protection Systems Review: Assessing fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, standpipes, and smoke control plans.
• Egress, Occupancy, and Building Use: Verifying compliance with life safety and occupancy classification requirements.
• Documentation & Communication: Preparing review comments, issuing approvals/denials, and communicating effectively with stakeholders.
Led by certified instructors with field and regulatory experience, this course also includes a focused exam preparation module with practice questions and mock review scenarios.
